Studio

Apt Studio on Adelaide Street was acquired in 2004 and originally housed the workshops for textile weaving and art and card production.  Over the years this has evolved and now also includes space for residents to work with graphics, glass and ceramics.

The graphics workshop allows residents to use traditional techniques to produce etchings and linocuts.    Our popular handmade and printed greetings cards are also created within the studio.

The weavery has a number of looms which are used to produce different woven articles including tapestries, cushion covers, rugs and table runners.

The workshop products are sold in both the Apt Gallery/Café and Apt Boutique alongside goods from other Camphill centres. A wide range of beautiful items from all over the world, including seasonal gifts and decorations can be found in our shops.

Ceramics & Glass

I love the work I do. I do a lot of practical work such as glass making and bead work. It’s harder than it looks. It’s a challenge but I enjoy it. I’m also making mirrors with glass shapes around them and that’s fun to do. I work with different people at different times of day.

Gardening

The garden team is a good group who get on well and work well together and also enjoy outings together. We have a laugh together. I work in the gardens of the community and really enjoy it very, very much. I really love gardening and everything I do in my work. I love being outside in the open air and nature and being at one with nature and the earth as it is good for my soul and wellbeing.

Apt Art

I work in the studio workshop in APT. My main job is collages and articles and making bags. The people I work with are a group, helping each other as a team. Each one is doing something and asks “what job can I do next?”

 

My favourite work is painting scenes of Fishpool Street and other scenes of old St. Albans, taken from photographs. The Rose and Crown pub, the Fighting Cocks pub and some of the cottages in Fishpool Street are delightful and elegant. The clocktower is also a lovely scene for a painting.

 Apt Boutique

I work in the Boutique. I work with the till and the credit card machine. I help customers. I also write on the computer and do jewellery in the shop. I have lunch in the café and take the chairs and tables outside. I am going to be doing my NVQ in the shop.
